Flagstaff Ski Rentals: Peace Surplus

It’s Ski Season in Flagstaff! Snow is in the forecast, Snowbowl’s slopes are open and there’s plenty of cold in the air. If you like to ski and you’re debating on renting skis, get ready for all you need to know.

Should I Rent Skis or Buy Skis?

We recommend ski rentals for a few scenarios:

  1. You are testing out skiing for the first time! If you’ve been a snowboarder in the past and want to try out skiing or this is your first time on the slopes, we recommend renting your ski gear. It’s nice to test out a few different brands of boots and skis or test out the sport before committing to purchasing your own set of skis.
  2. You’re from out of town. If you travel to Flagstaff from the valley, or even farther, it can be a hassle and expensive to travel with skis. Renting will save you a lot of time and effort.
  3. You have kids! Ski Rentals are perfect for kids who likely won’t fit in the same ski boots from year to year. Peace Surplus has a wide range of kid’s skis.
  4. You like skiing, but not enough to invest in your own gear. Let’s be honest, even with a great deal, a new pair of skis, bindings, and boots can be upwards of $1,000. If you like to ski, but don’t want to spend the money, a normal ski rental from Peace Surplus is only $24.99.
  5. You want your own gear, but you’re waiting for end of season deals. The end of the ski season can be a great time to look for used gear at SMR, or purchase gear elsewhere! If you want to do one more season of rentals before scanning for sales, go ahead and rent.

We recommend buying your own skis for the following reasons:

  1. If you’ve been testing out skiing and realize it’s the best thing ever, and you’ll likely spend plenty of time on the mountain over the next few years, it’s time to think about buying! In which case, you likely are already looking for gear.

Rental Process at Peace Surplus

If you rent skis from Peace Surplus, you’ll need to visit our store. We currently aren’t taking online reservations. Our staff will meet you in the back of our store, at our Ski Shop and get you personally fitted for skis. Depending on your ski level and size, we adjust the skis so they’re perfect for you. All of our staff goes through ski shop training so that they’re prepared to size and calibrate the skis for you. It’s really important to us that you’re safe and have a great time!

These Flagstaff ski rentals come with skis, poles, boots and a personal fitting. You can pick up your skis on the night before or the morning of the day you plan to ski. Want to rent for a few days? We allow multiple day rentals for $24.99 per day.

Benefits of Renting Skis from Peace Surplus

  1. We just got an entire set of new ski boots last year, they’re comfortable, warm, and just barely broken in.
  2. We have the option of renting “demo skis”, aka beautifully crafted high class skis that have an extra dose of smooth. We recommend them for advanced skiers! They’re $34.99 per day.
  3. You can pick up your gear the night before. This way, you won’t have to worry about picking them up on the way to Snowbowl in the morning. Our ski shop closes at 6pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends.
  4. Ski poles come for free, of course!
  5. We offer helmet rentals so you can ski safely for just $7 per day.
  6. We offer really reasonable prices. If you rent skis while you’re at Snowbowl, you’ll pay the extra convenience price.
  7. Like we mentioned above, our staff is heavily trained to provide you with the best skis for your trip.
  8. Peace Surplus also offers rentals for snowboards, cross country skis, backcountry skis, helmets, kids skis, snowboards, and snowshoes.
